Instagram won't open: why, and what to do

Sound familiar: Instagram spins on endless loading, the feed and stories don't refresh, the app won't get in. Other apps work fine at the same time. Let's calmly go through why that happens — and how to get your usual feed back.

Updated 30 July 2026

What happened

Access to Instagram in Russia is restricted at the network level, across the whole country. That is why the app stopped getting in for many people: endless loading, a feed and stories that won't refresh, messages that don't arrive. The main thing to understand: this is not a broken phone, not a virus and not a ban on your account. The account itself, your follows and photos are fine — only access to Instagram's servers is restricted.

In short: if other apps work while Instagram won't get in, it is neither the device nor the account. Access is restricted on the network side, and reinstalling the app won't remove it.

Check the simple things first

A couple of quick checks — maybe the cause is on your side after all:

  1. Close Instagram completely and open it again. Then restart the phone.
  2. Check the internet: open another app or site. If they don't work either, it is a question for your connection or Wi-Fi.
  3. Update Instagram to the latest version in the App Store or Google Play.
  4. Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data (or the other way round) and try again.

If the feed started working after that — great. But most often Instagram still won't open. Why — below.

Why that usually doesn't help

The restriction works not on your device but on the path between you and Instagram's servers. Reinstalling the app, changing the phone or making a new account therefore changes nothing: the phone is fine, the account is fine, and access is closed “on the road”. At best those steps give a brief improvement, and a minute later it is back to endless “loading”.

For Instagram to open again, the connection needs to be protected. That is exactly what a VPN is for.

How to get Instagram back

A VPN is a protected connection to the internet. When it is on, your traffic travels through an encrypted channel and Instagram opens again — the feed and stories refresh, messages arrive, video plays.

BrodVPN is built so that anyone can manage it, even someone who has never used a VPN:

  • you install the app — one button on the site picks the right one for your device;
  • you sign in by e-mail or with Telegram — no password to invent;
  • you press “Connect” — and that's it. No server to choose and no keys to enter.

Banking apps, government services and everything else you are used to keep working as usual — you don't need to switch the VPN off. And if something doesn't work out, we help in chat, in plain words.

Frequently asked questions

Why did Instagram stop opening for me in particular?

It is not your phone and not your account. Access to Instagram in Russia is restricted at the network level, across the whole country. Other apps aren't affected, so they work as usual while Instagram won't get in.

Will I lose my account?

No. The account, your follows, photos and messages are all intact — it is only about access. As soon as the connection is restored you sign in to your account and everything is where you left it.

Will the feed and stories load again?

Yes. With BrodVPN's protected connection Instagram opens again: the feed and stories refresh, messages arrive, video plays without endless “loading”.

Is it safe and legal?

Yes. Using a VPN as a private person is not prohibited. It is an ordinary tool for protecting a connection, used by banks and companies all over the world. Your traffic is encrypted and we keep no activity logs.

Do I need to configure anything?

No. Install the app, sign in by e-mail or with Telegram and press one “Connect” button. No server to choose and no keys to enter. If something doesn't work out, we help in chat.
